HPL Family Storytime
Come one, come all for a storytime featuring books and activities that are sure to engage everyone in the family! Encourage your family’s love of reading through this cross-generational literacy experience. Fall season starts now; every Thursday at 10 am through December 28, 2017.
Read with Pawsitive Pups
Woof! Woof! for reading books! Children are invited to relax and read to trained therapy dogs. This program will paws-itively encourage your children to read confidently! Intended for school age children (5-10 years old). Fall season is second Sunday of the month, now through December 28, 2017.
Programs at the Park
HPL has partnered with Levy Park to feature year-round programming that will create a literary getaway for those looking to experience their library beyond the walls. The park features native landscaping and botanical experiences, a one of a kind children’s play area, interactive water features, a performance pavilion, an event lawn, a community garden and dog park!
Literacy in the Bag
Join the Texas Tamale Company for the 3rd Annual Literacy in the Bag Book Drive.
Supported by our literacy partners, this exciting event will continue to foster and promote literacy in Houston’s children and adults. On Saturday December 2nd, homes in the Heights and Spring Branch area will receive a book donation bag. Please drop your new or gently used books in the bag and place them on your porch the following weekend. Our team of volunteers will pick up books between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Heights and Spring Branch area on Saturday December 9th. Children’s books will be distributed to Title I elementary and middle schools. Adult books will be donated to The Friends of the Houston Public Library to give back to the community.

Join us at any of our participating locations for fun crafts and activities for the kids as we celebrate the generosity of our neighbors. Volunteers will be picking up the book donation bags throughout the day.
JetBlue Soar into Reading
JetBlue will unveiled and installed a Soar with Reading book vending machine in honor of this year's Giving Tuesday, November 2. The book kiosk Is placed at the mini HPL library at the Northeast Multi-Service Center. It will dispense 25,000 brand-new, free books for kids aged 0 – 14 in the community throughout the month of December. Visit the mini HPL library and check out the JetBlue Book Kiosk to get a free book. It will be a great Holiday stocking stuffer or present for the little ones and even for teens!
Soar with Reading is a signature JetBlue For Good program, JetBlue’s platform for social impact and corporate responsibility. Giving back is part of JetBlue’s DNA and is core to its mission of inspiring humanity. Centered around volunteerism and service, JetBlue For Good focuses on the areas that are most important to the airline’s customers and crew members—community, youth/education, and the environment.
